Coals are an absolute essential part of the hookah experience. They are the source of heat which causes the tobacco to produce smoke. Without them, hookah smoking is impossible! With so many different types of coals around, choice of coal can vary from person to person.
Hookah charcoal comes in two basic classes – Quick light and Natural. While Quick light coals are what most smokers start with, Natural coals or coco coals are the cleanest way to smoke shisha. Quick light coals are usually used by novice smokers because they’re more accessible. They are easy to light, and relatively easy to use. Natural coals are choice of experienced smokers because they generally offer more control over heat management as they burn hotter and longer and are usually smaller in size and shape. Let’s know more about Quick light coals and in which all circumstances they are better for you.
As the name indicates, Quick light charcoals are designed to light with very little time and effort. They can be lit with virtually any heat source. Simply hold a tablet of coal in the tongs above a source of flame, such as a lighter or a torch and here you go! Applying high-heat or open flame for a few seconds will do the trick. These coals are infused with quick-lighting compounds. The coal will begin sparking and smoking when it ignites. The sparks will eventually immerse the coal and then almost immediately stop.
With Quick light coals it is extremely important to wait until the coal has turned a light grey colour due to the ash build up. Charcoal that still shows large sections un-ashed part is not quite ready to smoke. Using them before they have fully ashed over may make you sick from the carbon monoxide produced during the combustion process. Depending on what kind of bowl you’re using and brand of coals you’ve chosen, the quantity of coal required for a session differs.
