Everyone is hoping the next year will bring a state of normalcy back to Kansas City. And apparently, things will probably return to normalcy. Starlight Theatre, one of the most popular entertainment landmarks in Kansas City, recently announced their Broadway Series schedule for 2022. And the schedule also includes a series that we have all been waiting for here at KC Smokz called “Waitress” that Starlight had originally scheduled to play back in 2020 but was later canceled due to the pandemic.
For residents of Kansas City, this means things are finally going to return to normal next year, on top of the excitement for the shows.
The 2022 Season
The 70 year old venue never fails to liven up the city with concerts, shows and ambience. Their schedule for 2022 features a total of 8 shows, of which 3 are weekend specials. Apart from “Waitress”, the season will feature a few other productions that were canceled due to the pandemic including appearances by Riverdance and Blue Man Group.
Starlight President Rich Baker also had something to say:
“Some of the shows playing in 2022 have been on the docket for quite some time. When COVID-19 hit, tours had to head back to New York to weather the storm. I’m so excited that they’re back on the road, bigger and better than ever before, and that we can share them with Kansas City audiences next summer.”
As per the schedule, the first watch will be “Waitress” – a musical that will be running from May 17 till May 22. “Waitress” will be followed by “Hairspray” – a Tony Award winning feature from June 7 till June 12. “Anastasia” is scheduled for August from 9th till 14th, closely followed by “Sister Act” that will run from August 16 till August 21. The last of the core titles is “The Prom” scheduled for September from 13th till 18th.
If you are a Starlight season ticket holder, you will also get the option to add any or all of the three weekend-special performances when you renew for the season next year. We recommend doing this because weekend-specials really are that good.
Starlight’s 2022 weekend special titles include a reimagined version of “Oklahoma!” scheduled between May 13 & May 15, “Riverdance – 25th Anniversary Show” for June 17-19, and Blue Man Group for June 24-26. From what we heard, all shows will begin at 8 PM.
